The holidays are full of magical memories waiting to happen. There are so many seasonal things to be done that it is often hard to decide what to do first or to find time to get everything done. Many people find that the holidays often bring stress rather than the joy that is meant to unfold throughout the season. They are too busy running errands and trying to make things perfect to stop and smell the sugar cookies.
If you are one of those people that look towards the holidays with dread, have no fear your outlook can change. Remember the holidays from the days of your youth. You felt so carefree then and things were so simple. Learn to recapture those days again and regain your childlike optimism. You can reclaim the holidays.
Think of the season's stressors. What causes you the most grief? Think of ways to change those things. For example, if you are stressed out by all the cooking you have to do, opt for ordering a pre-made meal. Thinking between the lines when celebrating the holidays can make a big difference.
There is no rule that says you have to take on everything and spread yourself so thin. Only take on what you can handle and allow others to help you out. Keep things simple rather than making more work on you. You deserve to enjoy the holidays too.
Plan ahead and set realistic goals, even with simple things. Do your shopping and gift-wrapping ahead of time. Know where you will be going or who will be coming over for the holidays. Making all your arrangements ahead of time can help reduce stress and make you feel more on top of things.
Take the time to get in touch with what the holidays are truly for. Spend time with your family. Celebrate special traditions and start new ones. Running rampant trying to get everything done only takes away from the much needed seasonal bonding. Get involved with simple activities that include all of the important people in your life. This will make the holidays even more meaningful.
Learn to relax and be comfortable throughout the season. It is amazing how much doing little things will change your outlook. Smile and share smiles with others. Sing holiday carols and listen to seasonal music. Light candles, bake cookies, and take a hayride to view Christmas lights.
Remember that the season is about sharing and caring, not stress and hard work. You deserve to have a special holiday. Reclaim what is rightfully yours by embracing the season and making the most of it before the times have passed and you are left wishing that you had.
