Decorate your front door for the holidays

The Holidays are fast approaching and getting the front door decorated is your first step to introducing them. Both your family and your guests will enjoy a special treat.

It is a good idea to keep your front door decorated for the seasons. Since it is autumn and we just finished Halloween, you can leave up some of your Halloween decorations that depict autumn colors. Right now the stores are having sales up to 75% off on leftover Halloween decorations. You can find wreaths decorated with autumn leaves, harvest messages, and scarecrows. You can also make your own decorations by drawing pictures on construction paper or poster board. You can collect your own real autumn leaves and preserve in wax paper. Cut out to decorate your windows.

Autumn blends right into Thanksgiving, so you can add your own version of a turkey and maybe a cornucopia. You can have the children help with the decorations. Once Thanksgiving is over, the autumn decorations should be taken down and replaced with Christmas decorations.

Often neighborhoods have a special style and you can get hints from how your neighbors are decorating. Stickers for the windows are great. Ribbons and bows are great Christmas decorations for the front door.

Shopping at flea markets and rummage sales can provide many Christmas decorations with reduced cost. Never pass up a huge roll of velvet ribbon for 10 cents or a package of stickers for 10 cents. Saving money on decorations will not only make you happy but will also help you enjoy your holidays more.

Dollar stores are also great for reasonably priced decorations and you should be able to dress up your door and more with many items found at the dollar store. Most items are only a dollar.

If your doorway has a foyer you will want to dress that up also, so that your entry space is totally inviting for your guests and a source of pleasure for your family. First clean the entire area and remove anything that detracts from the overall holiday atmosphere. Replace welcome mats with holiday or seasonal welcome mats.

Save old Christmas wrapping paper from the year before to make mock Christmas presents. These can be strung around the doorway or around your foyer. If you have a large foyer you can decorate with an artificial Christmas tree. Your guests will find another one inside. Old Christmas cards make excellent Christmas decorations for the foyer.

If you have a storm door in front of your door, make sure it is cleaned well and then trim the outside with ribbon. Hang your wreath on the inside wooden door. Stickers will also work well on the storm door. Only use stickers on glass doors, never on wooden doors.

Much of your holiday decorating depends on your own creative genius with the help of your family. Let the children pitch in withdecorating. It is educational, artistic, and great fun.
