Every holiday season, there are so many expectations to create the perfect celebration. In all this stress and commotion, many people forget that the holidays should be relaxing and enjoyable. Taking some steps towards reclaiming the holiday season will do wonders for your state of mind.
Purchasing gifts is usually the most stressful of all tasks during the holidays. It's time to rethink the ideal gift. It shouldn't be about the cost, but about the thought that went into choosing it. Decide on a budget and stick to it! This year, decide how much you can spend and don't go over that amount. It might take some innovative thinking, but you'll save yourself a lot of aggravation if you know you are only spending what you can afford.
Get in touch with your creative side and make some gifts this year. If you are a fantastic baker, make some extra batches of cookies this year, put them in pretty boxes, and you have instant gifts that will be enjoyed by all! Friends and family will appreciate the time and effort you spent more than the money you put into a store bought gift.
Start early! There's no need to wait until December to start purchasing gifts. Throughout the year you may find gifts that would be terrific for someone on your list. Purchase them as you come across them and put them safely away for when you need them. Not only does this lessen the amount of shopping you need to do around the holidays, it also helps spread the cost out over several months.
Everyone knows that one neighborhood house; the one decorated from top to bottom with glittering decorations. Remind yourself that it's not necessary for your home to look like that for you to enjoy the season. Find decorating ideas that work for your budget and for the amount of time you want to invest. Decide to do what you enjoy and what works for your family. Don't worry about the neighbors. This holiday season is for you!
This time of year, it seems like everyone wants to get together and visit.
It's impossible! Realize that and slow down this year. Have an open house and have all your close friends over on one day. Make it a tree trimming party and you've got some decorating done too! Have everyone bring a dish to make it easy on all. Don't get sidetracked by all the work festivities; choose one party to go to and politely decline the rest. Postpone some gatherings until after the New Year when you have more free time. It gives you something to look forward to also!
Most of all, remember that the holidays are supposed to be a special time spent with family and friends. Slow down and enjoy the small things this year. A relaxed and enjoyable holiday season will be much more appreciated and remembered than a hectic, stressful one.
Happy Holidays!
