Decorating for the holidays can be such fun! Show your creativity by starting at the front door. You don't have to be a professional designer to make your house inviting. Just use your imagination to express your holiday spirit.
Decide whether you want your house to have the Hallmark look or fun and whimsical. There are many ways to decorate using things you may already have on hand.
For a Christmas card appearance use a large wreath. It should be hung at the center point of the door. Add color balls to highlight the color of your house and to offset the greenery. Add an attractive bow and your door is ready to invite company inside.
If you choose to do a little something different and fun, try presenting the front door as a giant Christmas present. Cover the door in wrapping paper then add ribbon and a bow. Set a few wrapping paper covered bricks beside it or even an artificial tree to finish the theme. Be careful what you use to adhere the paper to the door, as you don't want to leave marks on the woodwork when the display is taken apart. Using a two sided tape or sticky putty works well.
Many stores carry plastic door covers in a large variety of Christmas scenes. They are usually priced between $1 to $5 depending on the detail. Simply attach them to the door and you can reuse them the following year or they make great craft table covers later on.
Use the garland from last year to add festivity to your door frame this year. Attach a big bow with bells in the center of the door.
Get the kids involved by measuring butcher paper the length of the door. Let them create Christmas scenes by using cookie cutters to trace around and then finish with glitter and paints. Hang their art work on the door. They will be proud to show visitors which design is their work of art. If you have window panes display the decorations the children have created surrounded by fake snow.
Living in an apartment shouldn't be a deterrent to making your entrance door appealing and festive. Find a wreath that doesn't overwhelm your door. Use the peephole as the center point of your display. Use green garland and attach small red bows or any color that compliments the colors on your wreath.
The only limit to the door decorating ideas is your imagination. Have fun and show your creative side. Look through your old decorations to see what you might be able to use to make your entrance door more inviting.
