The sun was starting to set, it was Amy's favourite time of the day. After she served the Cranberry's family their scrumptious dinner, she tidy up their home and mopped the floor until it was sparkling clean. She had to make sure that she did not miss a spot because if she did, Mrs Cranberry would not be happy at all. Amy knew that it was not a wise decision to make Mrs Cranberry unhappy as the outcome would certainly be unfavourable. As soon as she was done with the daily chores, she consciously tiptoed up the squeaking stairs. Taking a few steps into her small bedroom in the attic, she gave out a huge sigh of relief.
To many of us, a bedroom simply means a place where we find comfort at night to sleep in but to Amy, it was a break from reality. It was her only sanctuary. She took out the breadcrumbs she save from the trash bin that Mrs Cranberry threw away. She starts chewing the breadcrumbs down as if she was savouring a big hearty meal. As she swallowed it down, tears began to stream down her sunken cheeks. Her heart began to ache. She was screaming inside but it was a silent cry. A pain only she would feel, a pain only to die down unknown. She save some of the breadcrumb left in the bag for tomorrow's night meal. After washing up, she crawled up in her bed and hugged her tiny frame. At least to her, hugging her tiny frame tight would allow her to have a little warmth from that cold wind blowing in the attic and it felt as if she was protecting herself from the pain. Amy occupied her thoughts with happy memories when she was little. Even though her soul was broken, she tried to deny the fact of reality and hope for a good night rest before facing the hell of tomorrow.
Amy had been working for the Cranberry family for two years now. Amy did not once thought that this is where she would see herself in the future. In fact, Amy was one of those girls who we envied in school. Amy was beautiful. She had long silky black hair, brown eyes and a gorgeous olive tone skin. Her parents were pretty well off financially. Amy's life was perfect until that fateful day when her parents were killed in a homicide. Everything that Amy had was taken away from her. Love, her family, her home, her money, her happiness. After that whole bitter incident, she ventured overseas in hopes to start anew. Things seems to pick up when she first land a job as a domestic helper in the cozy home of the Cranberry's, well that's what she thought.
As the ray of light shines through the tiny window of the attic and onto her face, Amy reluctantly, drags herself out of bed. She starts to wash up and slowly go downstairs to make breakfast for the Cranberry's. Suddenly, a voice rang loudly upstairs demanding for her. Amy's body started to stiffened in fear as she recognised the demanding voice of her tormentor. It was just her ill luck to have a cruel and merciless employer who inflicted pain on her for her slightest mistake. She sighed in desperation, it was another day of hell for Amy as attend to their needs.
