The worst teams in the NFL

by Zach Wild

Created on: November 10, 2008

1. Detroit Lions: The worst team in the NFL by far this year is the Detroit Lions. So bad are these Lions, that they signed a quarterback out of retirement, Daunte Culpepper, who was cut by the second worst team in the NFL the Oakland Raiders. They have absolutely no defense to speak of and their offense is a struggle at best. Much of this can be blamed on Matt Millen, who may go down as the worst front office/GM hiring in NFL history. Millen routinely shrugged conventional wisdom to draft players at immensely important position's, offensive tackle, defensive line/ defense backs, and instead drafted wide receivers. And two of those receivers, Mike Williams and Roy Williams are no longer with the team. Mike Williams isnt even on an NFL practice squad. Detroit has also been racked by injuries to their starting quarterback and running back as well as a lack of confidence and support from their fan base. How angry are Detroit fans at Falcons fans for the drafting of Matt Ryan this year? Wow.

2. Oakland Raiders: The Cincinnati Bengals are bad, but not as bad as the Raiders. The senile Al Davis continues to run them into the ground, and Lane Kiffin never received a fair shot in Oakland. Good news for him though. The last coach Davis fired at that age with a similar record is Mike Shanahan, 2-time Super Bowl champ and Hall Of Fame coach. Jamarcus Russell looks like he doesnt have the football IQ to ever progress and well never know how good McFadden can be if his line doesntblock and he keeps getting injured. The defense which supposedly was to be a strength, waived $70 million dollar corner DeAngelo Hall who wasn't playing up to expectations. Just how things have been going lately for the Raiders.

3. Cincinnati Bengals: Another team that has been cursed by injuries and bad personnel moves. Also they suffer from a trust and ill-seeded faith in Marvin Lewis who bows to his star players too much and has no discipline. When things were going right the Bengals had a average defense and outrageous offense, they went 13-3 that year. Carson Palmer hurt his knee first playoff snap against the Steelers and things have never been the same. No Carson Palmer and the release of Rudi Johnson have spelled disastrous for the Bengals, who many thought would never be a bottom three NFL team with their talent. All the pranks that Chad "Ocho Cinco" Johnson pulls and all the catches T.J. Houshmandzadeh makes haven't been translating to W's for the Bengals.
