Together, alone
Together were we; lonely was I,
Sadness and anger our constant companions.
Emperor were you; peasant girl was I.
Court jester only for you, your approval to gain.
You are his majesty the king; I am keeper of the home,
Courtyards, vineyards, and our children I tend.
Kingdoms here and lands afar your attention demand;
They are far more precious than we could possibly be.
On return from your quests, we are standing with gifts,
Anxiously awaiting the king of our home.
Welcome home, my love; Daddy, Daddy, see me!
...But we three are brushed away.
Strolling in through the door, "There's a spot on the floor,
the lawn doesn't look just right!"
"Who moved the remote? The coffee, too strong!
Kids bring nothing but pain!"
"Too much money on bills! My God, you're insane!
You must remember my Harley to pay."
In a rage, out the door.
"Don't you dare come looking for me."
At home, children cry; mother mourns.
Another day of our life has gone by.
Lonely days, even more lonely nights,
in this, our happy home.
Sleep finally comes to mother and children.
All is well, as well as can possibly be.
Together, lonely are we.
