Comparing Cock fighting and Mixed Martial arts is a tad extreme to say the least. To compare a cruel misuse of animals to a sport practiced by humans is to say that MMA is unethical or inhumane. Sure, some people do believe that to be so, but there will always be the few who are hyper-sensitive. So how does one determine weather a sport like Mixed Martial arts is as inhumane as cock fighting? One simply compares and contrast the two, until an opinion is formed.
Cock fighting has been regarded as a cruel and abusive sport my many societies for awhile now, for the high mortality and injury rates among the chickens that are forced to compete in it. One argument against cock fighting has always been that the roosters are not smart enough to choose this lifestyle for themselves, and it is wrong to force it upon them. Whether one agrees with that statement or not, it can be agreed on, that Human beings are intelligent enough to think for themselves, and hardly are forced against there will to fight for glory and fame. It is true that people have gotten hurt, but it is rarely, if ever, to the extent of the roosters in a cock fight.
This brings me to the next point of consideration. Why is it that there are less injuries in MMA then in cock fighting? One reason could be that unlike cock fighting, mixed martial arts has rules and regulations, not to mention referees who can step in and call the fight when things get out of hand. These things help to minimize casualties in such a high impact and admittedly violent sport. They protect the athletes from harm, a right not often afforded cock flight's participants.
For the most part the well being of the animals that fight in cock fights only goes so far as to keep them winning. If one is badly hurt no one really cares if it lives or dies. Can someone actually say the same for our MMA fighters? In a cock fight a dead rooster might bring about yells of joy and laughter, but when injuries get serious in the MMA arenas, the fight is stopped, and care is given to the fighter. Every effort is made to keep thing safe.
Mixed martial arts is not human cock fighting. It may be considered violent or stupid, but it is no cock fight. It is simply a fight, pure and simple. Just like boxing, wrestling, or any other sport of that nature. MMA is perfectly humane. It is a contest of strength, skill, and knock out power, not a blood bath entertainment.
