I love hot dogs and I love the toppings even more. Aside from the traditional hot dog toppings of ketchup, mustard, relish and onions there are several other toppings you can make to spice up your hot dogs. Beginning with a hot dog sauce.

Hot Dog Sauce

Ingredients

1 pound ground fresh hamburger (cooked and ground)
1 - 12 ounce can of tomato sauce
1/2 cup of water

1 Tablespoon of sugar
1 Tablespoon of hot sauce (your choice)
2 Tablespoons of onion powder
2 Tablespoons of garlic powder
1 Tablespoon of ground cumin

Combine all the ingredients in a medium size sauce pan and cook over medium heat for 30 minutes.

Cheesy Chili Hot Dogs

1 pound ground fresh hamburger (cooked and ground)
1 - 12 ounce can of tomato sauce
1/2 cup of water
1 Tablespoon of sugar
1 Tablespoon of red hot peppers
1 Tablespoon of hot sauce (your choice)
3 tablespoons of chili powder
2 Tablespoons of onion powder
2 Tablespoons of garlic powder
1 Tablespoon of ground cumin
1/2 cup of shredded cheese (your choice)

Combine all the ingredients EXCEPT for the cheese in a medium size sauce pan and cook over medium heat for 30 minutes. Prepare you hot dog in a nice toasted bun, put your chili sauce on it and sprinkle on the cheese, the heat from the sauce will melt the cheese.

These are only 2 recipes for creative hot dog toppings. Many people choose to put a variety of sauteed peppers on them or even fried tomatoes pieces. It's your hot dog, the sky's the limit, enjoy!
