What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

I used to have an uncle that has since passed on that when he was asked what kind of pie he liked, he would reply,"There are only two kinds of pie that I like and that is hot pie and cold pie". That is kind of the way I feel about ice cream because I like deep fried ice cream. I like most every flavor of ice cream sorbet or sherbet.

When I was a kid growing up in Western Nebraska there was a little dairy in Scottsbluff that was kind of hidden back in an alley that had the best ice cream and malted milks I think I have ever had anywhere. It was called Green's Gold Medal Dairy and you could go in there and get a monster malted milk for twenty cents. It was made with real ice cream, whole milk, powdered malt and it was a meal in itself You go to some of the ice cream places today and a malted milk,if you can even get one, the size of that one would cost you 8-10 dollars and i am sure wouldn't be any better if as good. Every Christmas they made a Peppermint Stick Ice Cream that was really good. I used to get a Hot Fudge malted milk made with the Peppermint stick Ice cream. That was really good.

Green's made another of my favorite flavors of ice cream and that was their Lemon Custard. It was so rich and good. It was definitely lemony but was real creamy and custardy too. I haven't seen Lemon Custard of any make for years and if anybody out there knows where you can get it or has a recipe for it, I would sure appreciate them letting me know where it is or sending me the recipe.

I like most any ice dream made with berries, cherries and various fruits. Boysenberry, Raspberry, Blackberry, Cherries, Peaches, Lemon, Lime, Mangoes to name a few. Strawberry is OK but my least favorite of the fruit ice creams. Good Times Burgers and Frozen Custard makes an Oregon Blackberry Custard Ice Cream that is delicious. At this time of year they make a Pumpkin Custard Ice Cream that is to die for. It is so creamy and good and I love it.

There is a realtively new ice cream or sorbet out now that is called Ola Fruita and has several good flavors but their Margarita flavor is the best. Tastes just like a good margarita but with out the liquor. In the summer time when my rhubarb is flourishing I have a really good recipe for rhubarb ice cream.

They built a new big Safeway store not too far from where we live and they have a ice cream stand in there that has a Pomegranate Ice Cream that it is really good. You would think that it had gold flakes in it but it is really good. They have several really good flavors.

But......my all time favorite ice cream flavor of all is one that we used to get at King Soopers and it was their Private Selection brand. It was called Bear Claw. They have quit making it which was very upsetting to me but probably a lot better for my waist line. It was a real rick dark chocolate with caramel sauce mixed through it and loads of chocolate- covered cashews. It was the best ice cream I have ever had bar none. When my father was nearing the end and didn't eat much of anything, he would eat this "Bear Claw" ice cream so every time we went up to see him we would take a half gallon and he loved it. He loved chocolate and he loved cashews. Like father, like son I guess. I have tried to make it but although it was definitely edible, it just wasn't the same.
