Reclaiming the holidays, both mentally and emotionally, is an achievable path to a stress free holiday season. Meditating and journaling are a great place to begin to gain a new and healthy perspective. Written ideas and goals have a tendency to be solidified in our minds and hearts. New objectives are also more likely to be met when written down.
Reflecting on past holidays can bring to memory the old ideas that have occurred in the past that you might choose to change. Old traditions can sometimes be more stressful than enjoyable. Maybe emphasis has previously been placed on events that contradict what you believe the holidays should truly be about. Do you continue, year after year, with beliefs and practices that were handed to you through the years regardless of your own personal beliefs? Change can happen any time you say that you are ready for something new and refreshing. Someone somewhere down the line started the old traditions and habits. It can be you who begins new ideas for you and your family.
Writing down and eliminating the old ideas that you choose to discard will open doors to the areas you would like to change. By writing in your journal what you really believe and expect from the holiday season, you will likely discover new meaning that you didn't even know you had. You can then use this self-discovery to write down new goals and inspirations that will surely energize you and give you an entirely new outlook on the holiday season.
In journaling you may find simpler things to add to a gratitude list that can be shared at Thanksgiving with your loved ones. A newfound outlook on the holidays, shared with those you love at Christmas, shows them an even deeper side of you that they may have never known. New Year resolutions have all new meaning in the quest for your personal truths. Will you make resolutions just for the New Year or on a daily basis? In reflecting on the past maybe you'll find that resolutions can be quite simple and more meaningful when you realize what really matters to you.
Many times we do not know what we believe, what we want for oursleves and our families and what might need to be changed until we write them down and are able to look at the entire picture. Journaling can help us see where old ideas have stopped working or may have never worked at all. Your new view of the season and of life from a more down-to-earth perspective can also be quite contagious and prompt those around you to evaluate what they believe in their hearts to be true and important to them as well. The holidays serve us better when they are meaningful to us and to those we love rather than stressful and chaotic. Reclaim the holidays and make them personal by discovery through journaling.
