One must first understand that women have affairs for different reasons than men do. One might be quick to assume that a woman has an affair for just the sex, as this is the reason that men usually have affairs. Also what else is an affair other than a sexual relationship with someone outside of your significant other? However, just like in relationships women seek out affairs to fulfill different wants and desires that are not being met at home.
-Emotional-
Woman need to feel wanted and loved. When these elements are missing in a relationship, they are going to seek it somewhere else. Women can feel that they are not loved because their spouse spends more time at work then they do at home or they spend too much time out with the guys playing sports or participating in other hobbies. If she feels neglected, she is going to be attracted to the first man that comes along to give her the attention that she is craving.
-An Escape-
A woman's life is hectic to say the least. If she is a full-time employee, a mom, involved in social or church activities and expected to still keep up on the housework, something is going to snap. Our society expects too much of women and does not allow them to let up on anything. While some men have learned that they also need to help with the children and around the house, it is not always that way. Once a woman gets to a point of breaking she is going to seek an escape and sometimes that escape is in the form of an affair. She is feeling under appreciated which takes us back to the emotional reason for an affair and once in an affair she only has her own pleasure to think about and nothing else. Once she returns to her regular life she has her next encounter with her lover to look forward to, which gets her through her regular stressful routine.
-For the Sex-
Yes, women even have affairs just for the sex, but not in the same way that men do. In a relationship one of the first things that happens is a physical attractiveness to each other. But, once you have been in a relationship for any amount of time if the relationship is not nurtured and maintained even the physical attraction that once was so strong can disappear or be taken away by an uncaring partner. A woman's partner can make her feel that she is not attractive either because he has lost any interest in having sex with her or because he has made comments about why she doesn't look like so and so on the television or that she has gained weight since they fist met. When this happens he has lost any claim to her sexual fidelity and just like the emotional reason, an affair can start through another man flirting with her and filling the need that her partner has cut out of her life.
