IN HER SEASON OF WINTER
A gentle soul and courageous
The windows of her heart
Sport gingham curtains
And a tray of cooling shortbread
Her memories, whether simple or outrageous
Are written as a gift to us
Woven both with joy
And compassion in the thread

A kind woman, of generosity
Her praise is heartfelt
And she sings it
For the benefit of anyone she admires
Occasionally she tries to portray
Herself as stodgy
But her mind is sharp,
Intelligent, as a teacher requires.
