Short stories: Escape

It had been a rather long day, and Terrance was starting to fall asleep at the wheel. The route of his sales job was starting to take its toll on him. Terrance was an electronic wholesaler and his route covered three states in the Midwest. Most days anymore he was lucky if he even took in two or three orders. The economy was at an all time low, and now he was starting to worry about losing his job.

His company provided new lines of: computers, flat screen and plasma televisions, and stereos; you name it New line electronics had it all. If there was something you were looking for in the field of electronics; New line had it, or could get it delivered to a store nearest to you.

This week had been worse than usual, with hardly any of his retailers ordering any new stock; they simply just didn't need it. The stores were full and the shelves were all stocked to capacity. Although Terrance tried every trick in the book, it just wasn't working out. Now his mind was filled with worry as he traveled this lonely stretch of highway.

It was 3am Friday morning and he was done for the week; all he had to do now was make it home. This stretch of highway was a desolate strip of road, and his eyes were getting awfully heavy. He tried to keep his mind busy to keep him awake and alert; sometimes it worked, but tonight was not one of those nights.

The stereo was blasting out some of his favorite tunes, and he was still fighting to stay awake. He thought about his family for a while and was starting to wake up a little when he saw a light hovering over his car. His thoughts drifted back to his family when the lights over the car became extremely bright and his mind went blank. Now, he was no longer in his car; he was in a different vehicle of a sort.

Terrance tried to open his eyes but he felt like he was drugged. His ears were filled with sounds that he had never heard before. Some of these noises sounded like he was in a high tech room of a sort; with different sounds of beeping noises and thousands of calculations being made. He could also hear sucking sounds coming from the room; like a dozen people were on a massive respirator. He tried to open his eyes again and saw something that his mind could not calculate.

Large blurry shapes filled the room as they busied themselves going from one computer system to the next. His eyes started to clear and he wished that they hadn't. What he saw was unlike anything he had ever seen before. He tried to move and found out that he was restrained
