The American people, in one clear voice, elected Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States. if I were to list the top ten reasons why I voted for him, I would have to include the facts that Senator Obama:
1. Maintained an even temperament and didn't show anger and frustration like McCain. We certainly didn't need a "maverick" dealing with Russia, so in voting, I chose the one best qualified to deal with the daily pressures of the Presidency.
2. Showed a sincere concern for our economy from the viewpoint of the average citizen. He understands the trickle down economy theory just doesn't work. He seems to have definite plans to improve it and my vote showed confidence in his plan.
3. Sees the waste of lives and money on an impossible and unnecessary war. He understands that this war is not only expensive but also has a devastating affect on American families. He sincerely wants to bring it to a successful conclusion and so do I.
4. Understands the importance of chasing your dreams and he will give every child a shot at a better life. I feel Senator Obama will focus on education and attempt to put the dream back in our lives and I voted to give him that opportunity.
5. Addressed the issues that are important to all of us and he didn't make any unrealistic promises to fix the economy, health care, education and everything else all at the same time. He actually has funded plans and that just made sense.
6. Sought the advice of experts in different areas like health care and didn't portray the "know it all" attitude of Senator McCain and I believe he will listen to his advisers and not just dictate.
7. Didn't choose a vice presidenti based on some hidden agenda, but chose someone he felt best qualified to do the job and that to me was a presidential decision.
8. Obviously takes a lot of pride in his family and has a tremendous amount of love for his wife and children which could be felt in all family appearances. I voted to once again have kids in the White House.
9. Always looked "Presidential" as opposed to Senator McCains's attempts to "dress down" to somehow appeal more to the average working person. I believe Senator Obama to be who and what he says he is and his consistency attracted my vote.
10. Knows what it's like to struggle to achieve and understands the struggles of most Americans today in fighting not only to keep their homes, but more importantly their jobs and he just connected with me.
Whether or not we made the right decision will soon be put to the test. Did Senator Obama make promises that will be forgotten when he actually moves to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or will he be able to pull it off? In any event, one thing is for sure; George Bush will soon return to Texas.
