How to make your own cell phone case

Cell phones are becoming a vital part of the lives of the modern man, in fact an extra appendage to many. These days, almost every individual has a cell phone, from school-going children to technology-phobic grandparents.

In the daily bustle of life, mobile phones tend to get battered and scratched. Moreover, it is often cumbersome to hold a cell phone in one's hand, and unsightly to stuff it into jeans pockets. Vanity aside, mobile phone cases are useful because you can put spare change into them, cards for bus trips, and general access passes for the average office worker.

What better way to solve your mobile phone problems, than to make your own cell phone case, to stash your precious technological appendage in?

Materials you will need:

A piece of fabric of a durable material 15 cm by 15 cm in size

Sewing material (Needle, thread of a similar colour to the fabric and pins)

A pair of scissors to cut the cloth

Ribbon to make the drawstring (You'd need safely 1 meter of ribbon to be safe)

Introduction:

The case here would be a drawstring pouch in which to put the phone, which is less stiff and inconvenient as a zip, and which also doubles up as a handle so the phone can conveniently be hung around the wrist. It is advised that the fabric you use is a durable one that doesn't tear easily under pressure, because your hand phone pouch is likely to be getting treatment as rough as that which your phone is getting now.

1) Firstly, measure your phone. Get rough measurements for the length, width and breath of the phone. It is okay to use rough ruler measurements, because the pouch isn't meant to be tight or snug fitting, so extra leeway could be given in turns of space for the actual making of the pouch.

2) Now cut out from your piece of fabric, the working piece of cloth of the following measurements.

Length: This should be twice the length of your phone, plus one time the breadth of your phone, plus 4 cm (which will be used to make the drawstring portion of the pouch).

Width: This should be the width of your phone, plus one time of the breadth of the phone with an additional 1 cm for stitching leeway.

3) Fold down the width of the cloth at both ends towards the inside of the cloth (the inside being the not as pretty or patterned side of your cloth) , for about 1 cm. Pin this down. Stitch 3mm away from the edge of the folded part of cloth for each of the two ends of the width of the cloth. The gap between the fabrics, with openings at the ends, will later be used
