When the Election 2008 campaign started, the choices were overwhelming. I actually liked a few of the candidates, which never happens. Usually I watch a debate of all the old, white guys standing stiff and uninteresting, applying for the highest job in the nation. This year was different on so many levels. First there was a woman. Hillary Clinton has been a formidable force in politics, before, during and after being First Lady. Then a Latino. Whenever have you seen a Latino in politics being taken as a serious contender for President. I was in awe. Then a strong, handsome, black male. I felt like I had hit the presidential jackpot.
Then as time dwindled down and the candidates left in the wind, two strong candidates were left and nominated by their parties. Barack Obama and John McCain.
Ten reasons why I voted for Barack Obama over John McCain are:
1. He would be a great icon for African American's and all black American's alike. He was not like the previous black candidate for president Jessie Jackson, for whom has so many skeletons in his closet, he could be mistaken for a necropheliac.
2. Barack Obama was direct, honest and funny. He was everything a woman looks for in a man, never mind a president. His charisma was what brought so many people to see him speak and felt like they were in the presence of greatness.
3. I attended a rally and not only found myself in the presence of greatness, but a man that could handle whatever was thrown at him. He made appropriate jokes, made strong arguments and lasting impressions on everybody there.
4. Barack Obama represented those of us who were tired of hiring the old, white guy for the job. He spoke to what I and so many other American's were going through.
5. Michelle Obama. She is a beautiful, strong, iconic woman that all females and young women should be looking up to. She does not even compare to Cindy McCain. Michelle represents the great woman, wife, mother and First Lady that shows us, we can do it all.
6. Barack Obama's children. By looking at someone's children, you can see what type of person the parent is. His children are beautiful, well dressed, well behaved, polite, happy and intelligent. So mirrors the parents.
7. Barack Obama's policies are what this country has been waiting for. They are what this country needs and requires to get out of this mess were in that was created by everybody.
8. During debates Barack Obama always maintained composure and dignity, unlike McCain.
9. Barack Obama's history in Illinois spoke volumnes.
10. Barack Obama is the man that the world was waiting for America to vote in. Other countries have voted women, people of all races and creeds' and we were still hiring the old, white dude.
My vote for Barack Obama was the best decision I have ever made politically. I know that no matter what mistakes, mishaps or incidents occur during his presidency, its not because he is a puppet or focusing on getting some Oval pleasure, but instead, because he's human. A vote for Barack was a vote to kick out the old, white dude from the greatest house in the land and to move in a family we all can respect and look up to, to back up in good times and bad. America spoke and fianlly we were heard.
