Understanding Christian's views toward paganism

If more Christians would understand the true meaning of "Pagan" the intolerance of centuries past might be left in the past and not perpetuated into our future. I would not dream of going to a Republican to find out what a Democrat believes, and yet, this is what some religions and churches have done.

"Paganus" is the original word, in Latin, originally meaning "country dweller." This term was likely a derogatory term at that time, because all citizens of Rome considered themselves quite the sophisticate. This may be like calling someone a country bumpkin, but for those of us that live and love the country life, it is an endearing term we may call our own babes; as in "Have you ever seen a sweeter little bumpkin?"

The historians often quoted were not objective journalists, but often politically motivated, seeking fame and fortune by tickling the ears of those they thought would grant the favors desired. This included the Church.

All the people that I personally know that follow the pagan path are living quite and gentle lives. Often, there is a great love for The Divine, respect and love for The Christ, and genuine reverence for the Sacred. Often, too, most walk in a humble and caring manner.

When someone desires to hold a conversation with one who is pagan, please remember that we are a diverse group of souls and give us the courtesy of finding out what we truly believe without preconceived judgment's. That would be one gift that should be perpetuated for future generations.
