Techniques to help you cope with labor

Labor is something that many woman become nervous about, and it can seem very scary. Although, with proper techniques it can happen more smoothly, and can make the process easier. In almost any difficult situation in life, if you are stressed, unfocused, and unsure the situation becomes a more difficult one, and the same goes for labor. Labor is something that no one can express, and explain how difficult, or how much pain another person can experience. It is different for everyone. The important thing is to be prepared and ready as best as you can be before the time comes for the expectant mother.

JOIN A LABOR CLASS

For new expecting mothers, taking a prenatal or labor class will make an extreme difference in your preparedness and comfort levels during labor. For mothers who have gone through it before, can also benefit by maybe learning new techniques or refreshing your mind for when your next child is ready to be born. During a labor class, you will learn coping techniques, ideas for your partner, and things to bring or to have ready during the time you are ready to give birth. You will also learn the proper breathing techniques that will help you stay calm and focused and will make contractions easier to deal with Most woman who take a birthing class and follow the things they learned during which time, have an easier, more comfortable labor.

BRING MUSIC

Music has been said to help or alter a persons emotional state. Bringing music to the hospital that soothes and comforts you will definitely create a more calming birthing environment for you and your baby. It is important to bring music that will also allow you to keep focused on what you are doing, otherwise you may feel distracted.

BRING THINGS FROM HOME

There is usually no place more comfortable then home, especially when you are in a hospital. Bringing a pillow, a blanket, slippers and your own pajamas will make you feel more at home in your room, and will bring some of the comforts with it. You may also want to make sure to pack the same things for your birthing partner for their stay at the hospital as well.

BE PREPARED

Before your last few weeks of your pregnancy, you should ensure that you have everything ready for your leave to the hospital. Not only should you have a bag ready with all the necessary things you will need, but you should have a birthing plan as well. Write down phone numbers of people you wish to call or have someone call for you. Make arrangements for any other children you may have. You should also decide who will be able to be in the delivery room in the hospital and make sure everyone is aware of this plan. No woman or family needs the added stress of too many people around them during this time. It is important to stay focused on yourself and the baby then worrying about other things at the time. Also, in your birthing plan ensure that the doctors are well aware of what you want to happen, and what you request not to have happen. For example, if you want a complete natural birth you can ask from the very beginning that no one is to ask you about pain medication, or you may want to tell them on your partners opinion on cutting the baby's cord.

So to insure that your labor goes as planned, and to ensure that things go smoothly, stay focused, calm, comfortable, and most importantly be prepaired.
