They were a young couple, Ayra was 17 and Brian was 19, but they knew beyond doubt that they were meant to spend a lifetime together. Ayra had just two more month until she graduated from high school after that she and Brian were planning on getting married and starting their lives together. It was a tough relationship, not a lot of people approved of it, especially Brian's mother. Most were just envious of the strength of the relationship. They were a mixed race couple; elsewhere in the world they would have blended perfectly. However for a small town with a population of 870, it was a big deal.
Ayra's family had moved to Jankin Island 5 years ago from Kanpur India for her father career. While Ayra's family was very much faithful to their Indian culture they allowed Ayra to choice for herself. Ayra was proud of her heritage but found the ways of her parents to be too controlling.
Brian's family had lived on Jankin Island for all of Brian's life he was the typical American dream boy. Blond hair, blue eyes, he had been the captain of the football team, everyone's hometown hero. He had fallen in love with Ayra as soon as he had gazed upon her long black silken hair and her deep brown eyes. She was like nothing Brian had ever seen before.
Despite mild prejudice throughout the town Brian and Ayra relationship had flourished. They had been together for 4 years and two months, and they were prepared to take on the world together. Little did they know that they may have to take on more than they had ever imagined.

He had managed straight A's, and graduated with a 3.9 grade point average. He was currently in training at the local fire department he was due to take his final test around the same time Ayra was going to be graduating. Ayra was also extremely smart she was at the top of her class valedictorian even, but her true passion was American Literature. She was planning on enrolling in the community college, the only college on the island; she wanted to study to be a writer or a professor.
While no adult will admit it was obvious in this town that the same people in the cliques that were apart of high school life, never really broke apart. There they were still the athletic bunch, the drama crowd, and one particular group that call themselves "Die Reines." Die Reines translates from German
