Sarah Palin was a relatively unknown face in the world of politics, at least for most of the United States until she joined the Republican Presidential Ticket and became a contender for the 2nd highest seat in the nation. Now with the election at a close and Barack Obama as the President-elect making plans for his next 4 years as leader of our county where does that leave Sarah Palin?
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been a point of interest from the first day that Senator John McCain introduced her as his Vice Presidential pick at the Republican National Convention. There is no doubt that she is a likable person and a refreshing change in the normally stuffy world of politics. But the big question was and still is "is she ready to lead this country and would she be able to?" That was perhaps one of the big obstacles faced by the McCain campaign after selecting Governor Palin. He touted that Barack Obama lacked the experience to lead the country, yet in the bid to shake things up and choose a fresh faced running mate that he felt could bridge the gaps of the Republican party he selected a running mate that herself lacked experience to lead the country if she were thrust into that position. His own judgement was question and may have in part led to his defeat in his bid for the Presidency.
In four years will Sarah Palin be vying for the top seat in the nation? I doubt it. Does she have the chance to be a viable candidate for President of the United States? Perhaps, but not in the very near future. Her political experience prior to becoming Vice Presidential nominee in 2008 has been limited to her experience in the state of Alaska. Now that Palin has had a taste of the political life on a national level, she may have only begun to show us what she can accomplish with time and preserverance. Her taste of the national spotlight may inspire her to broaden her knowledge of areas where she was lacking that gave the public reason to question how well she was equipped to step in the shoes of the President of the United States. If she takes this time to explore other political options on a grander scale, she may very well become a viable candidate for the top seat in the nation. Will she be ready to fill those shoes within four years? That remains to be seen, but the probability of her becoming the next President will only be determined by her future endeavors and her desire to do so. In twelve year or so, we may just be addressing her as President Palin.
