Poetry: Getting engaged

Thank you
so much
for the ring.
The diamond in it sparkles so,
like the bubbles in champagne.
It makes me drunk.
But the ring
although beautiful,
isn't perfect,
I'm afraid.

I'm afraid it's too big

for me.

Like your shoes

flopping on
my feet.

They got lost in

your shoes.
Your shoes;
they slip
and fall behind me.

And also,
the ring is too small.
It gets stuck on my second knuckle.
I can't breath in it

at all.

It may hinder me from writing emails
to my friends and my mom
about the honeymoon
and how moving in
with you has gone.

And the diamond
In the ring
is much too square.
It could get wrapped up
in my curly black hair;
the same way as you wrapped
This ring
in golden paper,
in a box,
When you first gave it

To me.

For me.

This ring may prove
Too heavy
For me.

The weight of it
seems like more
than an engagement ring
should be.

It's weird how

it fit perfectly
when you gave it to me
that other night.
Because now,
the ring-
It just doesn't fit right.
