Top five movies of all time

by Ashley Bradley

Created on: November 06, 2008   Last Updated: November 07, 2008

As some others on this topic have stated, i cannot not simply limit a list of BEST MOVIES of all time to simply five, hell, i can barely limit it to ten. But for the sake of you readers, i will try to keep it as short, but sweet, as possible.

Here ladies and gentlemen are my picks for the top then best films of all time.

1. ONCE (2006)

This little musical gem, staring non-actors Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova is what love would look like

if made into a film. Oh wait, it was. Up until seeing this film, I'd always thought musicals were superbly cheesy, but gloriously entertaining. I never took them too serious, nor were any buried emotions stirred from watching them. They were fun to watch and sing along to, and in the case of West Side Story, provided believable emotions. But THIS movie, is no cell-block tango frou-frah musical. No, ONCE is a heartbreaking film about love, loss and the overall human condition, portrayed to the audience via the piano, acoustic guitar and the endearingly suffering voice of Glen Hansard (who makes me want to break down into uncontrollable sobs anytime he breaks into the screaming fits of pain and anguish) that translates excrutiatingly beautiful onscreen. This movie is raw, realistic, and absolutely everything a movie should, but usually fail to, be.

2. NOTORIOUS (1946)

This underrated thriller by the almighty Alfred Hitchcock is a movie I never tire of watching. One, because it is NEVER boring, the plot never slides off into mundane, monotonous conversations that the audience could care less about, and the tension never plateaus, it only increases as each scene becomes more unbearable then the next. Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergamn's chemistry cannot be matched, and the way they "knock" each other around despite the fact that their lives are at stake makes this movie that much more great. The romance is will have you choking with tears, while the tension will keep you on the edge of your seat screaming at the screen, knowing perfectly well they cannot hear you. Know what all that means? Perfection.

3. ON THE WATERFRONT ( 1954 )

Marlon Brando has never been better than in this mafia-esque docks drama that never stops getting better. Every character is important, and they all play a sublime part in showcasing why the "bum" couldn't be the "contender" he so dreamed to be. This movie is devastating, but it won't leave you reaching for a noose, it actually might put a smile on your face.

4. A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983)

Ralphie is undoubtedly one
