Barack Obama has been able to inspire a nation to vote for change in the United States. In many states, however, the race was close. I was surprised and elated to find that my home state of Nevada, which is traditionally a red state, voted democratic. Here are the top 10 reasons why I joined my state in voting for Barack Obama:
Reason 1
Barack Obama has the character needed to lead the United States. During the campaign trail he has proved himself to be a man of integrity and values. He constantly spoke against negative ads and jeering mobs. Never at any point have I doubted his message and platform. His character is honest and believable.
Reason 2
Barack Obama comes from humble roots and understands what it means to be an average American. He knows what it is like to struggle for a good education. He has lived without much money or tangible goods. He is not afraid to mingle with the poor and powerless. I feel he is a good example of the American dream and what the average American can achieve.
Reason 3
Barack Obama is an eloquent speaker. This is essential in a President not only for domestic issues, but when dealing with the international community. He is able to convey his ideas in a way that people can understand. This ability shows that he has a sharp mind and is able to communicate effectively and easily.
Reason 4
Barack Obama believes in equality. He wants to make our economic system a more level playing field for the middle class. He wants to make sure that those in power are not taking advantage of those who are not. He is on the side of workers and families, and wants to make sure their dreams are not crushed under corporate or political greed.
Reason 5
Barack Obama comes from a racially and culturally diverse background. I feel that his experience in personally dealing with these issues gives him the ability to look objectively at the larger ethnic picture of our country. His cultural exposure makes him more sensitive to people living outside of the United States.
Reason 6
Barack Obama is highly educated and understands the importance of education. His record at Columbia and Harvard show that he is no mental light weight. He is able to work hard to understand an issue with an analytical mind. He also understands that the American education system is broken and will work to make our schools and students more competitive.
Reason 7
Barack Obama wants to end our military occupations. I believe he will bring our troops home, but will do so in the best way possible
