The 2008 campaign for the presidency of the United States will have to be remembered as one of the most significant as well as phenomenal events in the history of our country. My vote for President Elect Barack Obama was based on the following reasons:
1. Character - I was impressed with the sincerity and the integrity of Mr. Obama over the course of his campaign. One specific example comes to mind. This was when Gov Palin was announced as Senator McCain's running mate. Soon after it was revealed that her daughter was pregnant out of wedlock. When asked about this situation Barack said that families and children were off of the table when it came to debates and advertising. He stuck to his word on this and I do not recall seeing or hearing anything from the Obama camp against Palin or her family.
2. Organization - From every source I have seen and from all indications from the election, the Obama campaign was organized and implemented perfectly.
3. Grass Roots - A grass roots nature of his campaign has a people first emphasis, indicating a concern for your constituents and a desire to serve the people.
4. A Listener - Obama has called himself a good listener and those close to him seem to agree to his ability to consider all viable suggestions and opinions before making a decision.
5. Good Advisors - Those people who President Elect Obama mentioned as his advisors on financial, foreign, domestic and campaign affairs are some of the most respected in the country and those who I also admire as having a practical wisdom in this matters.
6. Endorsements - Those who recommended a vote for Obama, from Oprah Winfrey to Collin Powell to the chief of staff for President Regan to Warren Buffett all are successful and highly regarded people.
7. Calm and Cool - All through his campaign Obama never lost his cool. His even temperament I believe to be a necessity in the governing of a country.
8. Perseverance - The Obama campaign was formulated and implemented over a long two and a half years in the face of his main rival, Senator Hillary Clinton, who was undoubtedly the most formidable competition he had from either party.
9. Family - I was very impressed with the way Michelle Obama conducted herself in interviews and the fact that she was well educated as a graduate of law from both Princeton and Harvard.
10. Inspiration - One the special gifts of Barack Obama is his ability to inspire his followers. He is an excellent orator and someone who seems to be able to motivate, captivate and inspire those around him to new heights. These qualities will be sorely needed during the transition to economic recovery.
