It matters, at all times.
Why does it matter? It matters because political offfice is a matter of public trust. It matters because that person is acting on our behalf and is representing us. It matters because affairs in office puts that particular person in a position of being blackmailed.
If the office holder puts themselves in a position of being blackmailed than they have violated the public trust and there is no way one can trust that any decision they make is being made because they honestly believe it is the right thing to do or is it what they have been directed to do to keep the information of their affair from becoming public.
When you assume a position in public office you take an "oath of office", to us the citizens, you remember, "we the people".
When you get married you take an oath of fidelity to the person you marry. Which oath is more important? I think it may be the oath you took to the one you supposedly love because you allegedly will be with that person until death do you part, or at least that is the oath you took. It is unlikely you will be in office as long as you live therefore I have to believe that the oath to your spouse is more serious. So, on that reasoning I then have to say that if you cannot abide by that oath than why should we trust any other oath you take?
Yes, it does matter and it matters a lot, at least to me and it should matter to you.
Aren't you tired of politicians that lie to you, lie to their spouses, commit illegal acts, take pay offs, and pass laws that are paid for by special interest groups? Do you think maybe some of this behavior is due to their attempts to cover up illicit affairs?
At what point does this stop? Well folks, it doesn't unless we demand it does. Until we are willing to toss these scumbags out of office and put everyone on notice that we will no longer tolerate this behavior from our politicians it will continue and you will deserve exactly what you get. You are supposed to be the ones in control, not them. They work for you, you do not work for them. You are the ones who are supposed to set the standards of behavior. Demand better. Demand moral accountability by these people. They are setting an example for your children as are you. What do you think we are teaching the next generation by allowing this behavior to continue?
Moral integrity does matter, it matters a lot.
