Defining the importance of 'domestic engineers'

There are many common names for a domestic engineer. They are called housewives (or husbands), homemakers, stay-at-home parents, or just plain "mom" and "dad". Basically, they are the people in our family that attend to the household needs. Regardless of what you call them, there is no word to define how important their roles are.

A domestic engineer is a very integral part of the family. They are the one that keeps things running smoothly around the house. Domestic engineers are the most under-paid and under-appreciated people in the world. They do a hundred minimum wage jobs all rolled into one.

A domestic engineer is the peacemaker.

Those in the domestic situation encounter many everyday problems. They will separate fighting sibling, mediate, and teach everyone to get along. Their role is to find peaceful solutions that all the family members will be able to live with.

A domestic engineer is the family nurse.

Stay-at-home parents often care for minor medical incidents at home. They kiss boo-boos, and but band-aids on scrapes. They are the ones that clean up puke and miss many nights worth of sleep caring for the ill in their households.

A domestic engineer is the family cook.

Those who are in the position of caring for things at home are often responsible for meal preparation. They will prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner for many picky eaters. They learn to experiment with different foods to get everyone to eat them. Many times, they even find that they slave or a hot stove only to scrape out leftovers to the pets.

A domestic engineer is the maid.

Homemakers are the ones that have to take care of all the cleaning duties. They dust, sweep, do dishes, clean toilets, wash windows, and the entire basic household cleaning activities. They are in charge of doing laundry and battling a number of stains and messes that have few logical explanations.

A domestic engineer is a taxi service.

Those that spend their time at home don't always get to stay there. They are the ones that have to run errands. They do the shopping and drop off the bills at the post office. They take kids to appointments and activities. It often seems like their running is never done.

A domestic engineer rarely gets any free time alone.

When one task is done, there is another to be completed. Many people that are working at home find that there are not enough hours in the way. Everything may be spotless but when they are done, they are too tired to enjoy it.

Domestic engineers are more important than we give them credit for. They do all these things and so much more. Without them, many of us would be lost.

If you have a domestic engineer in your family, show them your appreciation. They are the oil that keeps the family wheel greased. Domestic engineers make the world go around. They make our houses into homes.
