In the United States many fail to realize that our government is based on a system of checks and balances. Each entity in place to ensure the righteousness of the other. When we cast our votes we speak from within, for the spirit of a country lye's within its people. The Electoral college generally waits to see what the citizens of that particular state want. Yes, the Electoral College eventually chooses the next Commander in Chief, but they are our voice and we speak through them. This election has proved that someone is listening to the people and that those checks and balances are still in place; we are a part of that system. When those who came before us devised the way in which a successor was to be chosen, I'm quite sure they put serious thought to play. Senator Obama has changed history, and this should instill the knowledge in this great nation that equality does exist. They said "Rosa Parks sat so King could march and Obama could run." We have truly been blessed to see such a momentous moment in history. The United States will once again be the land of the free and the home of the brave. A free man can stand up for what he believes in but it takes a brave man to defy all odds. Which was once last will one day be first. Another chapter in the book of history has officially been written.
People should never be discouraged about casting a ballet, feeling that the popular vote does not count. November 4, 2008 will forever be etched in history, as the day that the people of America united and took a stand for what they believed in. We the people, is how the preamble to the constitution begins. We the people have to come together regardless of color and creed, income or geographic location. If the words are silent you cannot get mad at the tongue but at the spirit within. Our voice must and will be heard.
America is one of the youngest nations in the world, but we are the big brother to so many. The example that we show is the path on which we must lead. Words are only as solid as the actions behind them. You must push forward with your vision and push forward to the future, for this is a new America. For those who believed that the Electoral College was not for the people, you have been proved wrong. Millions spoke and over 300 listened. What more do the people of this nation want, than the knowledge that someone is actually paying attention to what is on their hearts. We must look past the color of ones skin and look at the fact that everyone bleeds red, and everyone must live. Our inalienable rights promised us the pursuit of happiness, there were no stipulations put on that.
