You are ordering takeout
again
and you direct at me a question you ask
ask me" What do you want?" I don't know, so I say
"Surprise me"
and what I really mean to say is
Surprise me-
with effort
never before bestowed.
Surprise me-
with attention
never asked for.
Surprise me-
with finding you
waiting at my door.
Surprise me-
with words of longing and rapture.
Surprise me-
with your smile
outside my window at work.
Surprise me-
with my favorite flowers,
even when you haven't been a jerk.
Surprise me-
with time,
stolen away.
Surprise me sometime,
and decide to stay.
