Hiring an industrial coatings contractor vs. keeping maintenance in-house

When you are in the middle of a construction or building remodeling project things can be very hectic and don't tend to come in on or under budget. So at this point you begin looking at ways to save on your commercial project. At this point, one of the things that come to mind of owners and project managers around the world is whether or not their in house maintenance staff can tackle some of the commercial projects going on around the office.

While many in house contracts have proven themselves to be handy, and capable of day-to-day tasking projects, there might be some jobs better left to professionals in the industry. All the same, when it comes to a project like painting and coating projects here are some things to consider if you are using industrial coatings contractors versus in-house maintenance teams.

Education and training
If your project manager has done their homework they will have hired certified professionals to complete your coating work. These specialized certifications are gained only after a contractor has completed certain training and showcased their individual skills. The pros in using a contractor like this will be the quality of the work, because of the education and training behind them. Most of the time, in-house contractors don't have this type of specialized training, as they don't need it.

Speed
Everyday your business has its doors closed you aren't making money. Speed is a very important factor to weigh in your decision. You want the construction teams to be in and out, after having done the most quality work possible. When using professional industrial coatings contractors you know that because they specialize in this area alone, their speed and accuracy might just be a cut above an in-house maintenance team.

Licensed and bonded
When hiring professional contractors you can rest assured that their work is licensed and bonded. Good contractors will even provide a warranty on their work. While you might have an in house team of professionals to upkeep and maintain your building and the work involved in refining it, that doesn't mean they will always be with you as an employee. Work that they do for you isn't licensed and bonded and won't come with a warranty.

Overall when deciding whether or not to hire industrial coatings contractors on your project the main focus will come down to the capability and past experience of your in house maintenance team. If you have someone on staff that is a professional installer in coating products it could be more cost effective to use them as well as just making good business sense. On the other hand, tasking inexperienced staff members might result in a lower cost now, but increasing costs on the back end. Keeping these facts and figures in mind when making a choice will make it much easier to make the right one.
