"Good Friends"
Things change quickly
With the years
You tend to hold onto the memories
But try to let go of the tears
Friendships that you valued
Change along the way
And the friends you had a year ago
Aren't the same ones you have today
Although there are moments
When you remember a laugh or a joke
It seems that in those memories
There is a shielding cloak
To block out all the frustration
And pain that person gave
Knowing that if you were friends today
They'd be the one digging your grave
For only they can see the hurt
And pain you've held for years
And although they said they'd help
They only added to your fears
I warn you now to watch yourself
For bad relationships that can't cut it
But as the people always say,
"Good friends stab you in the front."

My twenty eighth birthday shaking hands with a past
I'd just as soon forget.
