Poetry: Emptiness

Barely Living

Do you ever feel like you're barely living?

Like you're only half alive?

The rest of you feels numb to the world

Scared to give itself up, in case the bottom falls out

You hide a piece of you away

So you won't get hurt, or not as bad

You're scared to put your whole heart into things

Worried you may lose a part of it along the way

In your relationships, friendships and work

There are missing pieces that nobody notices

They can't tell you're not really there

They see you smile, but never notice the

Morphine that you've placed in your eyes

It's a solution where nobody gets hurt

It's a solution where nobody feels a thing

You could prick yourself and never feel a thing

No pain, no agony, just a numbing bliss

Do you ever feel like you're barely living?

Like you're only half alive?

I can still feel pain sometimes

But if you ask me... I'll lie
