Every year in northern Wisconsin there is a small town that holds one very unique contest. The town is located in complete woods. They live alone in the winter and befriended by tourists in the summer. All the locals caught their own food and prided on their smores. To keep themselves occupied and entertained they sported many activities through out the seasons. The one that caught everyone's attention, including the media first happened in 1968.
There is an old story that is told around many camp fires late at night here in Merlon, Wisconsin. It is believed that way back in the 1920's there was a small family who resided deep in the woods. They made moon shine and sold it off to the locals. It was a small little cabin made from the very trees that protected the home now. One night something very horrible happened. No one is quite sure what exactly occurred, but the entire family was found dead. The deaths were proved all suicidal. Once the bodies were removed from the cabin, it was never seen again. It disappeared. No one could ever locate it.
People went crazy at the idea that there was a haunted cabin right in the middle of their woods. Tourists enjoyed the story and bought souvenirs. In 1968 the town decided to hold a three day contest where groups up to three people could go into the woods and find the cabin. The town council even offered an award to make it that more interesting. No one has ever claimed that award.
Forty years later and the search was still on. The annual cabin hunt was about to begin and the contestants couldn't have been in a better mood.
Group one called themselves the "Boy Scouts". They were three boys who attended St. Luke's school and parish. Adam was nine, Scott was thirteen, and Donald was seventeen. These boys spent their entire lives living as boy scouts. They sold the most popcorn and made the best gingerbread houses. Their rooms were filled with badges and awards.
Standing next to the Boy Scouts outside the woods was a proud father looking down at his son. The Walsh family had repeated the contest three times in a row. It had become a family tradition for the man and boy. When channel six news interviewed the two, they had this to say, "You know, I enjoy spending quality time with my family. My son is an incredible little boy, and I'm glad we can share in this activity together."
The reporter asked the boy, "Is that right? Do you enjoy going on a camping trip with your dad?"
The boy blushed, nodded, then buried his face into his
