To be honest, I feel that no women should go through this operation. My own mother had it done when she was in her early thirties and since that operation, she has always had gynecological problems relating to what I'm sure, is the fact that she had a hysterectomy!
I find it is not as common as it was, say 25-30 years ago. Every time a woman had a gynecological problem, the first thing that they were told is that you have to have a hysterectomy! As if it was a cure all and the seat of all the medical problems in the first place. I'm no doctor mind you, but after reading and watching the latest research, there are many more alternatives out there instead of getting a hysterectomy. I suggest that if you doctor does want you to go through with this, research the subject and get at least a second opinion. See a Naturopath also to see what your options are in the natural healing fields.

I know for a fact that many years ago, in my region, a television program was done on the subject and the conclusion was that an operation like this is a money-making surgery for the establishment involved. Everything comes down to dollars and cents. I know from personal experience, even with my family doctor, if they have the chance to push medication or surgery, they will, even though you might not really need it!
I remember watching a news program a few years ago about a woman who had severe bleeding in the uterus due to tumours that were benign (fibroids I think) and she was in her twenties. Her doctor's first diagnostic was for her to get a hysterectomy, no ands ifs or buts about it! The young woman decided to get a second opinion and happened to fall upon a woman doctor who suggested she go in for a type of laser surgery that involves passing a steel ball inside the uterus and sealing off the bleeding for good. Anyways, I don't remember the details, but it helped her and she was cured for good after that. The surgery was new and has gained in popularity since then, cutting the number of hysterectomies down enormously.
I remember my mom getting a hysterectomy because her monthly periods would last about 2 weeks a month instead of a few days...was that really necessary? To this day, I say not at all. My mother, to this day, regrets that she did not get a second opinion and would have never had the operation if she had been informed.
I find that if a woman must get a hysterectomy, it should be for a darn good reason and something that would kill her or disable her if not done. Today, one can see alternative methods for healing problems. Try seeing a Naturopath, energy healer, Reiki practitioner, acupuncture. 95% of the diseases that exist in our bodies today, whether they be physical, mental or emotional, stem from beliefs and stress that we keep locked into our bodies and DNA. Being an energy healer myself, I have seen people that even though the most advanced medicine has treated their bodies..the sickness comes back because it is encoded energetically into their bodies and therefore invisible to science. But, that is another subject!
So, in my humble opinion, I don't believe that the surgery is necessary. Check out all your alternatives first, before going under the knife.
