Decorating your home for the holidays
Decorating a small home for the holidays can be challenging. Decorating on a small budget adds to the challenge. There is no reason for a small home or a limited budget to hinder your holiday spirit. There are various ways to successfully meet the challenge.
Consider your holiday decorating process in small steps one room at a time. If your want to incorporate a few holiday ideas in each room, do so on a scale that weighs the amount of time you spend in each room and on which rooms your guest are most likely to see when visiting.
Start with your front door. Make a wreath for your door from branches, berries, and other nature related items. If that isn't an option for you, then purchase a very simple, inexpensive door decoration. Having a Christmas wreath on your door immediately gets you into a festive mood each time you come home.
Most small homes don't have a foyer but if you do have an entry area that has space for decorating, then utilize this space.
* Hang a sconce on the wall with a holiday colored candle in it. * Create a very simple table decoration if space allows. There's no need for expensive
decorating here. Place a red or green mat on the table. Arrange a few small candles, a Christmas book, and some greenery on the table. * If you don't have a foyer but still want to have some type of holiday decoration immediately available when you first enter your home then hang a Christmas themed picture on the wall facing your door. When the holidays are over you can use this space to hang seasonal pictures throughout the year.
Decorating a small kitchen is simple and easy on the budget. * Replace your regular towels with red or green towels. * Decorate with holiday fruits such as apples, oranges, and pomegranates. * Use Christmas candy and cookies placed in glass containers as decoration. * A shopping spree at a thrift store can allow you to decorate with Christmas dishes, coffee mugs, glasses, and place mats very inexpensively. * Purchase a small Christmas plant to put on a counter top, table, or even on top of the refrigerator.
Decorating the living area of a small home at Christmas is probably the biggest challenge. You don't have to have a large Christmas tree in order to bring a festive spirit to your small home. If you try to include too many decorations or decorations that are too large you will be more likely to become frustrated with the reduction in your already small space. Keep your decorations limited and scaled
