Short stories: A narrow escape

by Samuel W. Connelly

Created on: November 04, 2008

It was going to them or us, and if something didn't happen fast, our kind would have been completely annihilated. Everything was at one time perfect, but it was them, the SIN that screwed it all up.

I'm not really sure of when we all actually became conscience of it, for some of us it was the moment the blood of the soul, Abel, soaked the earth. We all still feel him- deep down in our roots. I think the truth was obvious- the problem was apparent. There have always been those who have tried to convince the rest of us that this evil was taking over everything; like poison Ivy which thrives on trespassing; growing beyond his boundaries and then stinging all those poor animals who happen across his path. For the most part, we were blind to the extent of this SIN and its evil heart and intentions. We did see it though; we saw it as we wanted to see it and closed our eyes to what we didn't want to believe. We allowed the SIN into every part of our lives; cohabiting, growing together in an un-natural bed, making unholy unions.

SIN grew greater and greater. The disease spread all over the world, sucking us dry of the pure essence of life. SIN gave birth to more SIN and the evil parasite slowly took over everything. SIN became the masters; we became a natural resource to the beast. We were powerless to their many vises, advancements, and tools for destruction. Yet even as resources we were soon striped of almost everything which made us strong and beautiful. We were torturously turned into a veneer; shallow, cheap, and mostly fake.

Finally we had enough.

On a very cold November morning something happened. Call it a renewal of consciences, a renaissance of self-awareness, or a revival. Call it what ever you want but right at 3:15am, as if lightning had struck the whole of us at the very core and awakened our innermost psyche or essence, we all became aware of each other
One mind, one accord; and we had all come to one unified conclusion concerning our problem. We decided that there was no other way: it was time to destroy the SIN. We had to take back what was rightfully ours. We were here before SIN, and before SIN we had the Garden of Eden. It had been lost because of SIN. We all decided that it was time to stand up and fight for our heritage; it was time that we regain Eden.

That very cold November morning we had all become one united entity, one massive green giant. Every thought was shared by each other, there were no independent ideas. Throughout the day we planned
