We are fortunate to have some of the best hospitals and doctors around the southeast in Atlanta, Georgia. Highly trained specialists work in state-of-the-art facilities. Research, advanced medical technology and testing is supported by Atlanta's premier research and development colleges and universities. Atlanta hospitals also have ready access and cooperation with the federal Center for Disease Control (CDC) located in downtown Atlanta. Among the very best of Atlanta's excellent hospitals are Piedmont, Northside, Emory, St. Joseph's, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and Grady Memorial.
It may have caught you off guard to include Grady Hospital in the list of Atlanta's best. Over the years Grady has received a lot of bad press. First it was the facilities, which still had old hospital wards. Hospital wards held six to twelve beds, separated by paper thin curtains, in one room. The facilities and technology were updated, and then Grady began to face financial woes. Despite the flack the Grady gets, it is one of the best trauma hospitals in the United States. If I were ever injured in a car wreck or by gunshot Grady I would want to be taken to Grady Memorial. The staff is highly trained, efficient, and works amazingly well with trauma victims. Injured trauma victims from counties all over Georgia are often flown to Grady for life saving medical attention. I hope the hospital gets turned around for the good of Atlanta and the surrounding area.
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital includes Scottish Rite, Egleston, and Hughes Spalding. Hughes Spaulding is the pediatric facility in the immediate downtown area, identified by its proximity to Grady. Scottish Rite is on the north side of the city at the junction of Georgia Highway 400 and Interstate 285. Egleston is located next door to Emory Hospital's main campus. Each of the hospitals associated with Children's Healthcare offer loving care and treatment to the children of metro-Atlanta. Doctors, nurses, and the entire staff work to make ill and injured children feel safe and comfortable. They take pediatric medicine seriously, but they take healthcare a step farther than most. Children's Healthcare seeks the well-being and happiness of children in their care. Singing clowns roam the hallways and ER like minstrels, educational assistants and facilities are available for long-term patients, and activity rooms are filled with coloring books, toys, computers, and even video games.
