Whether you live in Atlanta or are just traveling through, consider visiting the city's vibrant downtown, as there many interesting things to do. With most of these options in close proximity to one another, you can accomplish a lot in one or two days. This article highlights some of Atlanta's downtown offerings.
GEORGIA AQUARIUM This aquarium is a must-see, as it is the world's largest! The aquarium, which is very family friendly, is divided into various themed areas. Key attractions include gorgeous beluga whales. There is also an amazing acrylic tunnel. Passing through it literally makes you feel like you are at the depths of the ocean. This aquarium is fantastic, and in and of itself worth a visit to Atlanta.
CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC PARK A trip to downtown Atlanta would not be complete without a visit to Centennial Olympic Park, a 21-acre park that memorializes the Atlanta-hosted 1996 Olympics. One of the park's most beloved features is the Fountain of Rings, an interactive fountain in the shape of the Olympic rings. The park often features music and other events. During the winter, it features Atlanta's only outdoor ice skating rink.
CNN CENTER/INSIDE CNN ATLANTA For those of you who are news junkies, the CNN Center is located in the heart of downtown, and it offers an extensive behind-the scenes tour.
PHILIPS ARENA Home of the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Thrashers, this amazing indoor stadium has hosted many an exciting event. Be sure to check out the schedule of events here to see if there is a game or a concert of interest coinciding with your visit to downtown Atlanta.
UNDERGROUND ATLANTA This attraction is free, and it offers entertainment day and night, ranging from shopping to dining to clubbing. Underground Atlanta is literally underground, and it is sure to provide hours of entertainment. You should be able to please all family members at this location as it offers such diversity.
WORLD OF COCA-COLA This World of Coca-Cola is actually brand new, and is twice the size of the original that was located at Underground Atlanta. This attraction features all kinds of fun for your family. Learn all about how Coca-Cola is made and enjoy tasting all kinds of Coca-Cola products. Visit a 4-D theater, and explore the largest collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia in the world.
These are just a few of the sites to visit on a trip to downtown Atlanta. Clearly, if you are planning a visit, you will not in the least bit be bored!
