With the recent release of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, more and more people are getting the opportunity to see just how cute Chihuahuas can actually be. These perky little undercover dogs have a way of digging a hole right into your heart. Chihuahuas have these big eyes that just beg for attention. Be careful though, once you stare into the eyes of one of these amazing creatures, they will win your affection for sure!
The smallest dog in the world is the Chihuahua. They come in many shapes and sizes but often exhibit many of the same traits. Chihuahuas are known for their devotion and curiosity. Not much will be able to get by the watchful eyes of a Chihuahua. Even when they are sleeping Chihuahuas are able to hear even the slightest of noises. Their ears immediately perk up followed by an alarm like bark.
Chihuahuas demand attention from the ones they love. Generally at the most inopportune times you will find a Chihuahua trying to monopolize all the attention. They will literally get under foot just to achieve a simple pat on the head or quick lick on the hand or face of their master. The devotion a Chihuahua gives to its owner is unconditional and unmatchable.
Chihuahuas are similar to children in many ways. They require a lot of one on one attention and just love to snuggle. They tend to get cold very easily so you will often notice them digging under a blanket or making a nest out of a stray article of clothing you happen to leave in the floor. Chihuahuas love to play with toys. Some of their favorite toys include small balls, socks or pet toys with squeakers inside. Most Chihuahuas will figure out how to make a squeaky toy make noise within a matter of minutes.
Chihuahuas make excellent door bells! They tend to get excited easily and when company comes, Chihuahuas let you know by barking. Chihuahuas have a sharp bark that can easily be heard. Many older people that live alone choose a Chihuahua as a pet for that reason.
Though Chihuahuas make excellent pets, children and Chihuahuas often don't mix. Since children are small, Chihuahuas often look at them as though they are enemies. Chihuahuas and children can become friends, but it is better to be on the safe side and watch children around unfamiliar Chihuahuas. Anyone with plans on purchasing a Chihuahua should read up on the traits and tendencies beforehand, especially if other children are in the home.
With proper care and love a Chihuahua can live fifteen to twenty-two years. The average life span of the Chihuahua, however, is around eight to twelve years. These tiny dogs can quickly become part of the family! Consider letting a Chihuahua be the next pet for your family. It will be a decision that you won't regret!
