Therapy dogs are a growing trend in the health care field as well as in home therapy. The natural bond that exists between dogs and people, has grown significantly throughout time. It is no wonder that doctors and scientists are recognizing the benefits of the much loved creature, as an emotional and physical therapeutic source of rehabilitation and well-being.
The nurturing nature of dogs and their willingness to "push" their owners into activity and fun-loving games, creates a healthier environment on all levels of human interaction. The children live healthier lives, running and playing with the unconditional love that only a furry friend can understand. The life-long companionship between a dog and a child, is always an outstanding memory of happiness that brings family and home into the heart. Everybody remembers their pets and never forgets one, no matter how many they've had.
The introduction of dogs into therapy on a higher level, has been very successful, mostly in nursing homes. Dogs provide that love and in return provide range of motion, occupational therapy, and comfort to the lonely. Healing and spirit of life, fill the person who interacts with dogs on a daily basis. Family members have very busy lives, and leave seniors feeling lost and forgotten. When they see that lovable smile on the face of a childhood friend, panting as they come in the room, seems to bring them back to a happier and healthier time. Renewing their hopes and strength, pulling them out of that old body, and filling them with youth.
Both as a childhood pet and as an old time friend, dogs are a part of our history and became a part of society. Having the same rights to life, protection, and not the least of all........... love.
