She had poor taste in men which probably stemmed from her serious self-esteem issues. No matter...I was there for her when they finally left and she was feeling down and out. I made her smile and showed her the brighter side to life though she tried hard to resist my efforts. The last one was particularly cruel and ended up throwing me from the balcony of her sixth story apartment building. Even in death I would not leave her side.
I had lived a hard life before she rescued me from the pits of despair. It had landed me behind bars as I sat on death row...my execution date fast approaching. She came into the room and I knew right then and there she needed me. I could sense her sadness and I wanted to help her, to show her she had nothing to be sad about. I paced back and forth in my cage and purred with delight at her presence.
The moment our eyes met I knew we would be together forever. She rescued me in the nick of time. I owed her my life. I vowed to never let anything bad happen to her and to always be there for her when she needed me. It was the least I could do after she had my life spared.

When they left her emotionally battered I lifted her spirits and showed her the good that came with life. She could always count on me no matter how bad things got.
As horrible as these beasts were toward her I knew that there were good people out there. Men filled with just as much kindness and compassion as she. I would do what I could to help her find just such a man...someone who treated her with kindness, who loved her unconditionally as I did, and who would respect her as an individual. That was the vow I had secretly made to her.
A man entered her life...a very bad man. He was dangerous and she was vulnerable. He was conniving and she was gullible. I loved her beyond words but she was far too good-hearted at times. I needed to get control of the situation and chase this man out of her life permanently. I had deemed myself her protector, her guardian, and I would stop at nothing to see she was safe and happy.
He entered the room and I hissed at him venomously as if I were a poisonous snake. I would curl around her feet and purr but the moment he drew near I would stand
