A Bimmer is forever . . .

First a general trivia. What is a bimmer? Owners of BMW cars love to call it a Bimmer. Confusion comes in with the spelling and the pronunciation. Only a BMW car is a Bimmer, whereas a BMW motorcycle is called varyingly as a Beamer or a Beemer. At least now you know the difference.

BMW with its rotating propeller badging has fired the imagination of the car enthusiasts since the beginning. It's german engineering and penchant for neat detailing is legendary. While till late in the day BMW chose to remain a connoisseur's delight in recent past that outlook has changed to a good extent, probably tempered by the realization of the changing world realities.

Today BMW makes cars in almost all the categories and classes that one can imagine. Today a Bimmer can be the same luxurious sedan, a sports coup, a SUV or even a hot hatch! And mind you, all of them inherit the same attention to details, safety and superb and solid engineering that has made Bimmers a legend.

For a while I thought about covering all the popular models in the BMW stable in this article. However I had to renege the idea as soon as it came because even the more popular models would make a complete digest if I were to do them any justice! BMW stable is filled with the juciest of cars that shoot the adrenaline of the car enthusiasts. Here are a few of the very latest and the best.

1 Series : BMW's latest offering is meant for the entry level hatchback segment. Categorized as the hot-hatch of the year, it has drawn some rave reviews. It is a complete BMW, albiet in a small format. Unlike most of the competition this is a front engined but rear wheel drive car giving it a unique and unparalleled driving characteristics. It sports aluminium front axle with a five-link rear suspension. Safety department has exotic features like a dual cluster tail lights indicating whether the brakes are being applied normally or under extreme urgency. Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Brake Control, Electronic Differential Lock, Full airbags including even head airbags for all the seats are all part of the regular offering. Except for the base model all the Series 1 cars sport a six speed gearbox. The four engine options range from a 115bhp petrol to a 163bhp oil burner.
