How to prepare a variety of salads and treats for Bearded Dragons.

Bearded Dragons are omnivores. They need both animal and plant foods. I have done lots of research on how to prepare a balanced meal for my 2 beardies. Many sites will tell you what they eat but not how to prepare them. I will start with what is the most dangerous, then what types are staples that you can feed often. As well as how to prepare them. Maintaining the right level of calcium in your Beardie and avoiding disease can be a little difficult so here are some tips.

Dragons enjoy eating moving prey like crickets and several types of worms, but they lack in calcuim ( superworms are better than mealworms and waxworms are high in fat, silkworms contain enzmes that make calcuim absorption more efficient and can reduce inflamation and pain and it can also break down arterial plaque ) so it is very important that these are dusted with a calcuim suplement. Crickets should be 1/2 to 3/4 the size of the space between your dragons eyes and worms should have softer boddies also it's a good idea to smash the worms heads before feeding them to the Dragon some can eat through the lining in a Dragons stomach. Crickets and worms can be kept for several days while you gut load them. Remember what goes in your cricket or worm goes in your Dragon. Feed your crickets, types of foods that are safe for your Dragon. There are several suplements that can be purchase for the sole purpose of gut loading the Dragons prey. Meat should be fed to adults and older juvenials 3-4 times a week. Salads should be offered everyday. Feeding should start early in the morning so the Dragon has time to digest. Make sure they have a warm spot that is at least 105 degrees to digest their food properly. All plant food and fruits should be cut very small or shredded. They should also be cooked slightly if they are hard. Also no peels or seeds allowed. Don't give up if your Dragon doesn't seem to care for a new food right away it may take time to convince them so keep trying.

First it is well know that these following things are very dangerous to Dragons they can make them very sick, deprive them of nutrition or even kill them in minutes.

Fireflies (lightning bugs) are deadly, and generally any bug or worm that would normally be ok for your Dragons that is found outside will probably contains some level of pesetisides, your better to buy them from a commercial supplier or grow your own. You would be suprised how easy it is to grow your
