My answer to this highly debated question is no! As a support worker that works for a non-profit organization I see every day no funds available for profit revenue. If a non-profit generated revenue then wouldn't its status go to profit then in turn pay huge amounts of taxes that us working families have to pay now? Wouldn't that also show mis-management of government funds and tax payers money?
I have seen to keep a non-profit organization going money fly everywhere and even with volunteers and donations still not be enough. We work for very low wages and work very hard because there isn't enough money to cover all costs with labor being the highest cost to a non-profit organization. The second highest cost to a non-profit organization is paperwork and advertising to keep the donations flowing. So I ask-how would a non-profit generate revenue?
The only way this would be done is to not provide adequate services within that non-profit organization. Non-profits are developed for a reason-whether it be because that region has high demand for it or somewhere in the past someone suffered a loss that wants to help others. To show a profit that us as taxpayers help support or keep alive would be heartbreaking.
I have seen families through the years do without extras just to give to a non-profit. How would you feel if you made your family do without say-pizza night-to give to a non-profit that came back at tax time to say they made a million dollar profit that year? A few regrets-probably so! And in turn would you continue to give-no.
It also would probably start a chain reaction as well. If you are like me you probably give to more than one and you probably would think twice to giving to any ever again! I mean come on-you have it in your head you are doing a good thing and your bubble is burst by hearing of a profit generated by that place. Your family did without while you built their revenue for them!
As a human who has had alot of wrong doings happen in my life-I fully support a huge amounts of non-profit organizations and even work for one that I am very proud of. But I can also guarantee you-if they show a profit after my blood, sweat and tears-I would not support them nor work for them.
So again we ask ourselves-should all nonprofits generate revenue and my answer is no. I don't support any of them generating revenue period. If they make revenue, the money has not been distributed to where it needed to be used or used wisely. And us as taxpayers isn't our money taxed enough. Do we really want to see our donations taxed too?
