Growing up with a family pet is considered one of the greatest joys of childhood. It all starts with laying the foundation of your new pet and baby's relationship. Their first introduction is so important in forming a new bond with each other, Here are a few tips to make this memorable moment go smoothly.

- Get the animal familiarized with it's surroundings

- Test the waters

- Make this a controlled event

- Show the baby and your pet the same amount of attention

- Go into this experience with a positive attitude

Having your pet familiarized with their new environment is a great idea. This will have them feeling more open and less distracted by their surroundings. While doing this you can also test the waters. Let your pet and baby see each other from a distance. Sometimes this will produce a reaction that will give you an indication on how their first meeting will turn out. It also lets you know how much of a controlled situation you will need to have. Controlling this event makes everything comfortable and more safe. Having you and another loved one hold your animal and the baby is suggested, if possible. It's great for your pets comfort and it keeps your baby safe. This also shows that you are giving both sides the same amount of attention. Doing this can prevent the family pet from getting jealous. Most importantly go into this experience with a positive attitude. Both Frustration and nervousness can be sensed by animals and children. So be positive and take these tips on making upcoming memories with your new pet enjoyable for everyone.
