Remember the old saying, first impressions mean everything? Well they still apply today, especially when it comes to the challenging task of selling your home. It does not matter how much money and time you spend upgrading the inside of your home if you are not able to bring the potential buyer in off the street. Here are a couple of ways you can enhance the curb appeal of your home and attract more attention from onlookers.

When it comes to the exterior of your home, one of the best ways to increase your home's appearance is to paint. By painting the house, windows, trim, and foundation, you will provide a focal point to capture the buyer's attention. You want to make sure to choose a color that goes well with the neighborhood along with the style of your home. If your house is on the smaller side, then do not be afraid of using bright colors.

These colors work well with small homes where as larger homes need a multicolored palette. Once you decide on the color scheme for your home, you will need to make the decision on how to accomplish it. Painting a home can be difficult and if you are not up to the challenge, then you are better off with hiring a professional to ensure it is done correctly. If you opt to paint it yourself ten here are the four basics of painting you need to remember; quality of your paint, painting technique, equipment, and surface preparation.

Another way a home owner can enhance the appeal of their home is by upgrading the front door and lockset. Your front door is the center of attention for you home and can have a dynamic impact on the overall appearance of your home's exterior. As with painting your home's exterior it is important to follow the four basics of painting. When you paint your front door, it is the perfect time to consider changing your lockset.

Even though locksets can come in a variety of styles, you want to make sure it matches the dcor of the home. For example, if the home has black wrought ironwork on the front, you would want to consider a dark or iron hand hewn lockset. Always pay attention to the architectural detail of your home when making a decision on which lockset to use.

When it comes to the curb appeal of your home, do not forget the small stuff, like accessories and lighting.

A well chose doormat will set the tome for your home's entryway or porch. Consider that everyone who visits the home will see the doormat so make sure it emits a welcome statement. The one are most home owners forget to upgrade
