New Proposal by Senator Edward Kennedy to Put a Cap On the Number of Troops in Iraq

Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts has put forth a new proposal to have Congress vote to put a cap on the number of troops in Iraq. The bill would also require Congressional approval to send in more troops as well as require the President and his administration to be held accountable for any additional military spending in Iraq.

In an effort to end the continuing escalation of the Iraq war, this bill states, "that no additional troops can be sent and no additional dollars can be spent on such an escalation unless and until Congress approves the president's plan." With this new legislation, Senator Kennedy's goal is for American's "to reclaim the rightful role of Congress and the people's right to a full voice in the president's plan to send more troops to Iraq."

I think this would be a great first-step towards balancing the bad judgment that has prevailed in this presidential administration since 9/11 in fighting the War on Terror, and in bringing our over-worked service men and women home from Iraq.

I believe, along with a growing number people from both the Democrat and Republican parties, that President Bush has misled and continues to mislead us by taking us down the path of a troop increase that no one with any sense left believes in. However you want to frame this new "surge" of nearly 22,000 troops, it's wrong for our country and for our armed forces who are need both at home and in other regions of urgent conflict.

I think it is important for all Americans to be made aware of this new legislation to help protect us from engaging in further escalation of our military forces in Iraq. I strongly encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with Senator Kennedy's proposed bill and urge your Congressional representatives to vote "yes" on its passing.
