So you are looking for a new dog, cat or otherwise to complete the family or provide companionship... great! Now, should you adopt an abandoned pet or contact a breeder in search of that pristine companion? Well, really it depends on your goals and needs. If you are searching for a dog to show, breed or compete in agility contests then a reputable breeder is your only venue. However, most of us fall into the category of seeking an animal as a pet. A companion we can love on and bring into our home and family. If this is the case for you, then you have a choice. You can go after that fancy animal from a breeder, which will not be cheap or you can head down to the humane society and latch on to a companion desperate to share his or her love with you and seek your approval. For many shelter animals this is a last ditch hope for them and most times they are great animals. Better yet is the fact that the shelter wil typically provide all vaccinations and spaying/neutering for one small fee. Often times, the animals find themselves in a shlter not thanks to their own doings but thanks to a previous owners hardship or failure to be able to care for the animal. It is a shame to see such wonderful animals punished for no wrong doing. If you are not seeking that show winning animal, consider adoption. You are virtually gaurnteed the animal you save will provide you with immense joy and you can feel good about what you have done.
