Best shows on television

I have the blessing and the curse of watching TV through the eyes of a person that earns a living from the entertainment industry (as a voiceover artist, actor and writer - primarily).

I'd have to agree with some who've offered Grey's Anatomy as one of the top TV shows. It's a beautiful mingling of wit and drama who's only departure from reality is that most doctors, as health professionals will readily admit, just don't look as attractive as the the McSteamy/McDreamy cast. On the other hand, there are plenty of girl and guy next door types in the series, as well, so despite its sometimes steamy trailers and bumpers, the show is real on the whole.

Other highly enjoyable shows for all ages could easily include Fraiser, Gilmore Girls, Without a Trace and yes, even Rachel Ray. Frasier and Gilmore Girls both offer intelligent humor. Frasier is admittedly more slapstick, while Gilmore offers more drama, but both well define the words from which sitcom is derived - situation comedy. Without a Trace has great photography, a strong cast and well written scenarios. My one complaint (from a writing standpoint) might be that they always seem to find the missing person. I have yet to see an episode where the person either remains missing or is found too late, but I've admittedly only seen all the episodes our Tivo will hold. ;) And as for Rachel - I have not one single cooking bone in my body, but I still enjoy watching this otherwise tomboy-ish chick reel in embarrassing stories from her studio audience and interview guests ranging from Michael Bolton to Chandra Wilson (from Grey's Anatomy). And yeah, that rotating studio's pretty slick, too.

The 'what it all boils down to' point to be made is perhaps that the shows we love most are the shows that reflect us as we truly are - witty, broken, romantic, scathed and eager to get the recipe right.
