There was a time when respect was taught,

food was offered and friends were abundant.

A time when adults didn't swear,

children wished to learn and everyone would share.

There was a time when violence wasn't seen,

words would settle arguments,

parents cared for children.

A time when money was a tool,

dreams were for fulfillment,

when children stayed in school.

There was a time when men were not so fair,

women were in love and mistrust just wasn't there.

A time when old folks didn't gamble,

about the past they'd ramble until all ears were fed.

There was a time when communities would meet,

when everyone was known and relationships would grow.

A time when criminals were hated,

not glamourized and rated,

no one procrastinated.

There was a time when most believed in God,

when humans learned a lot,

and wanted sin to stop.

A time when babies were embraced,

and taught at their own pace,

the world was theirs to chase.

There was a time when many said hello,

to some they didn't know,

when selfless acts would grow.

A time when no one feared police,

when children walked the streets,

the final goal was peace.
